Introducing the evocative art of Rose Adare, The Adare Experience presents classical portraits of inspiring counterculture icons challenging everything from love, sex, and gender, to body image and personal expression. An amazing collection, the Adare Experience also includes Adare’s full length documentary, Restraint & Revolution, alongside guest lectures, book readings, and open discussions with sexologist Carol Queen PhD, LGBT orator Kimberly Dark, adult performer Jiz Lee, and queer therapist Alex Stitt. Juju Minxxx will spark the stage with live burlesque, while couture Devin Mohr presents wearable art and make-up demos. Throughout the Festival, Adare will also be painting, so come on by to meet the artist. All events are located in the Adare Experience Gallery and Stage, unless otherwise noted.

Go behind the scenes at the pre-union Lusty Lady Theatre with Carol Queen, who worked there as Minx Manx in 1990! In her solo spoken word piece Peep Show she introduces you to her colleagues in tall boots and blonde wigs and to a few of her most notable customers as she found her calling (and her exhibitionistic self) in the Private Pleasures booth, where anyone could come to Talk To A Live Nude Girl!

8-8:40PM What Sex-Positivity Is—And Isn’t: Carol Queen PhD
“Sex-positive” doesn’t mean “Yeah! I love sex!” (though if you do: yay). It’s a social philosophy, a way to non-judgmentally acknowledge that human sexuality is diverse and may be fluid. There is no one definition of “normal.” We each have a right to our desires and boundaries, a responsibility to communicate about these and to establish and respect consent. We can’t have a sexually healthy life without coming to terms with these ideas, yet we get little education about what they mean and even less in how to adopt these as standards for a safe, healthy, satisfying sex life. Sexologist Carol Queen PhD will fill some of these gaps in a philosophical and practical discussion about establishing consent culture in a world full of diverse desires and boundaries.
