Presenting the PEFF 2023 Short Films

Dear and darling art enthusiasts! It is our delight and honor to introduce you to the PEFF 2023 Short Films! This sampling of short films comes to us from all across the world, from daring filmmakers as close as Vancouver, BC and a far away as Pune, India. As different as these films and the creatives that produced them are, the thread of eroticism weaving through them all is the same.

The Pan Eros Film Festival will run concurrently at the SIFF Film Center in the Seattle Center during the 21st annual Seattle Erotic Art Festival. A separate ticket is required for entry to PEFF. But enough about that! Let’s see what’s playing!

Taste of Love

Paul Scheufler • Vienna, Austria

“What is the taste of love?“ Could it be sweet, sour, bitter, or even salty? A girl embarks on an aromatic journey of love, stimulating her taste buds to the point of climax. With all senses, she explores the various forms love can take on. “Love is as diverse as our sense of taste.”

My Friend Dominatrix

Christian Vilchez-Lizardi • Guanajuato, Mexico

I am all of them. I am the representation of feminine magic. I am what everyone is silent about. I am a daughter. I am a sister, an intelligent woman, a spiritual woman, a free woman… I am a mistress. A dominatrix.

Coming In

Romane Etienne and Louis Devignes • Annecy, France

A knight ventures to the demon’s lair to save a princess. However, the epic battle he prepared for will not be as expected.

The Little Death

Pedro Lavin • Mexico City, Mexico

In this visual poem set in contemporary Mexico, two lovers share an afternoon of passion as an ancient deity from their dreams performs an orgiastic dance that mirrors their ecstasy.

The spirit visitor, known only as the Little Death, leads the couple on an oneiric journey of transformation and rapture. Heralded by strange, symbolic visions the trio come to an ecstatic climax; as the walls between reality and fantasy collapse. Like orgasm itself, the spirit’s ritual ends where it began in an infinite cycle of love, life and death.

Told through magical realism and Mexican mythology, the film represents a homecoming for filmmaker Pedro Lavín who, with La Pequeña Muerte, returns to his roots to tell a story that is uniquely queer, and singularly Mexican.

Not Man Enough

Andrés Valenzuela • Santiago, Chile

“Not Man Enough” is the video recording of a photoshoot and a performance. Actions that face the fear of knowing myself as “not man enough” in a sexist and violent country. My queer body assuming the role of a male soccer fan in a calendar session or erotic casting. Biographical rewriting from the desire that seeks to redefine and liberate my identity.

Salty Cream

Maja Classen and Rob Talin • Berlin, Germany

A green haired human is lost in the forest, looking for something, as they are confronted with animalistic creatures and mirrored masks playing hide and seek, seducing and luring him in. First they appear as singular beings, then as female and male lovers, then dancing and merging into a four-armed genderfluid creature, then into a six armed goddess. The human is fascinated, starts to sing his melancholic song and plays the mask like an instrument or a body, when they suddenly become part of the creature, merging into it. It is now the most beautiful eight-armed monster and goddess, which represents our strength, fear, sexuality and sensuality and beauty. And the way that fashion and luxury come from the beautiful dialogue of our bodies.

The Washing Machine

Diane Malherbe • Soria, Spain

Starting a washing machine is not so easy for everyone. You have to choose the right program…

CRU

Diego Ruiz de Aquino • São Paulo, Brazil

Egon wants nothing more other than a steak… raw. However, upon meeting a Scornful Woman, he feels again; anger and love. Together they will unveil the most subtle layers of reality; but will it be enough to find, within themselves, something beyond solitude?

Ghost Song

Joseph Keckler and M. Sharkey • Brooklyn, New York, United States

A narrator reveals the details of a mysterious, transformative encounter that took place in a remote locale. Joseph Keckler is a musician, writer, and artist whose work (which includes songs, films, stories, and performances) has been presented by NPR Tiny Desk, Lincoln Center and many other venues.

Safar (Journey)

Kapil Joshi • Pune, India

A story of two souls who want to live happily ever after and want to blend in with the crowd.

Soulmates

Lenyx Le • Amherst, Massachusetts, United States

Stop motion film that tells a story of love, loss, and the light we bring to one another.

Hope

Diana Juárez Rodriguez • Mexico City, Mexico

A sonnet by the writer Ramón Bolívar, where the sensuality of homoerotic encounters is explored. Through a series of literary images, the poem suggests a story, but never shows it, rather it places greater emphasis on tactile sensations and the avid drives sustained in the mystery of the erotic encounter.

The New Eden

Francisco Bonadeo • Venado Tuerto, Argentina

A new garden where Adam is born from Eve’s rib, where sin does not exist, where there are only passions and no regrets.

The Confession

GoAskAlex and Ursinae Vespéral • Vancouver, BC, Canada

A woman who has strayed from her righteous path asks forgiveness from the inside of a dimly lit confessional. As she describes her sins, the viewer is transported into her sapphic fantasies before climaxing in a surprise twist ending.

“The Confession” is written, directed, filmed, edited, and cast entirely by sex workers in British Columbia, Canada. The film focuses on exploring queer desire within the confines of a church confessional booth, as inspired by the writer’s own lived experiences facing homophobia (both internalized and externalized) and realizing her queer identity

A Real Job

Lawrence Essex • Manchester, United Kingdom

As she goes about her day job, Eva grapples with the complex emotions that come with being a stigmatized and often misunderstood member of society. Through her inner monologue, we hear her thoughts on the discrimination she faces, the challenges of her work, and the double standards that exist in the way sex workers are treated. Ultimately, the film serves as a stylistic exploration of the lived experiences of sex workers and the broader issues surrounding their profession.

Household Porn

Inés Labarrère Ventroni • Rosario, Argentina

At the end of a long, tiresome day of quarantine isolation, Carla tries to overcome both boredom and cabin fever from being cooped up in her little apartment. The year is 2020 and the most promising idea is to masturbate.
Finding visual stimuli and setting the mood is a great start, but her plans are disrupted once the domestic appliances turn on and start harassing her.

An ode to love.
