Writing workshop? Yes, please!

Our talented writers are excited to share what they know of their craft with you! This year the Library is excited to host workshops on everything from journaling with intention to finding the right words to spicy fantasy world building.

Friday Workshops

Clea Salar: Respectfully, How Does It Hang?

8:15 PM – Clea Salar, a practiced wordsmith and smut peddler, presents a workshop on creating non-human races for spicy speculative fiction. This workshop will walk you through creating your own fantasy or science fiction species, from culture to anatomy, using examples from her sci-fi romp, Frost Flower, and upcoming fantasy adventure, Bound to Desire.

Saturday Workshops

Andrew Engelson: Sex, Kink, Writing and Resistance

1:00 PM – This is a challenging time for many of us, as people in the US confront authoritarianism and some leaders believe they should control decisions we make about our bodies or demonize trans people and immigrants. This journaling workshop will explore how our sexuality and/or kink practices can offer distraction, empowerment, community, and resistance in a time of rising fascism.

Megan Landon: The Allure of Words

2:00 PM – Words have shape. They are visceral. They echo in our minds, reflect our perception of the world, and evoke memories as keenly as smells do. They are inherently sensual. This workshop explores the unobtrusive allure of bare words and the essence of their power.

Brianna Malotke: From Inspiration to the Page

3:00 PM – In this beginner friendly poetry workshop, we will start off with a brief talk over poem formats. Then we’ll dive into different writing prompts with specific artworks as the inspiration – we’ll discuss artworks and do short writing bursts. There will be time to share your creations with others, but you do not have to share. Each attendee will walk away from this workshop with 2 or more poems.

Polly Superstar: Invoke the Spirit of Eroticism to Enhance Your Art Viewing Experience

4:00 PM – Polly Superstar from Writing With Mermaids—a writing community for sex culture—leads an interactive session to invoke the spirit of eroticism. Connect with fellow attendees and get your creativity flowing in this playful writing practice. Leave with a heightened sense of erotic awareness to enjoy the exhibition more deeply and intentionally.

Shana Graham: Wanting: Writing Embodied Desire

7:30 PM – Wanting is the heartbeat—the driving pulse—of creativity. What does your body want? What does it want to say? In this playful, generative mini-workshop, we’ll drop into sensation, invite our inner wants to the surface, and transform that somatic fire into words. No writing experience necessary—just bring your heart, your body, and your desire.

Drea Talley: AMA with the Literary Art Director

8:30 PM – Drea Talley, MFA, Lady of the Words, and Literary Art Director, will sit down and answer your questions. Any question. From what she knows about writing and publishing to how she makes decisions when it comes to the SEAF Literary Art Anthology.

Drea’s opinions are her own and do not necessarily reflect those of the Seattle Erotic Art Festival or the Pan Eros Foundation. Ask at your own risk.

Bedtime Stories

So, if you’ve been to SEAF, you know the evenings get lively. Dance music, sexy costumes, fun vibes. Sometimes, though, you need to take a break from dancing. Maybe you want to sit and chill. Or maybe you’d enjoy someone reading sexy stories while you relax. Maybe you also need a cookie. And that’s why there’s Bedtime Stories. Once the music picks up and the night begins, the Library becomes a comfy place to sit for some fabulous longer readings from our Literary Artists.

Special Library Guests

On Sunday, we are welcoming some special guests to the Library.

Non-Monogamy and Art

12:30 PM – Evergreen Hearts is hosting a discussion panel during SEAF on the topic “Non-Monogamy and Art”. Evergreen Hearts has invited a few SEAF artists who identify as non-monogamous to talk about their identity impacts their art. The panel will be a moderated discussion on Sunday May 4th, 12:30-1:30pm, followed by a meet-and-greet style social time.

Evergreen Hearts is a nonprofit organization based in Seattle, dedicated to supporting individuals in non-traditional relationships, particularly those exploring polyamory. We offer educational events and resources focused on personal growth, relationship dynamics, and effective communication. Our inclusive events attract attendees from diverse backgrounds and provide a platform for professionals to speak and share insights on navigating non-monogamous relationships in a world not designed for them.

Aspirational Erotic: Body Size, Shame and Aesthetics

2:00 PM – Join photographer and body liberation activist Lindley Ashline to explore the origins and history of body image and weight stigma, and which bodies are seen as erotic. We’ll apply what you learn to some of the works at the festival and examine how aesthetics and representation play out in this year’s art selections. Finally, we’ll spend a bit of time sitting with discomfort around bodies outside mainstream beauty standards.

Lindley Ashline is a fat artist, activist and round unicorn friend. She creates photographs that celebrate the unique beauty of fat bodies and uses those images to change the world. Get free resources and body liberation education by signing up for Lindley’s newsletter at bit.ly/bodyliberationguide.
