Hello Artists and Art Aficionados! The Call for Art is underway, and we thought this might be a good opportunity to introduce this year’s Visual Art Jury! These fantastic lovers of art (many artists themselves) have offered up their time to view and consider all the lovely salacious work making its way to us. Our jurors come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences, united by not only their love of art but an understanding of the importance of seeing the erotic reflected in art.
meyekərā
Photographer, filmmaker and visual artist meyekərā, aka Micha Ray, wants to normalize nudity, decriminalize sex work and promote an appreciation for the human form as unique works of art. His provocative code paintings champion body positivity and sexual freedom while depicting pleasure and kink with unapologetic sensationalism. His exaggerated first-person and sometimes participatory compositions draw their power from the personality of the piece, which is often as important as its subjects or even the art itself. meyekərā looks to impressionist painters of the past to inform his creative approach to 21st century art.
Brodin Petrichor
Brodin Petrichor (he/him) is not originally from the Pacific Northwest, but this cheeky bisexual now calls Seattle home. A longtime lover of film and erotic art, he has volunteered with SEAF since 2015, usually slinging drinks from behind the bar. Along with being a SEAF Alumnus, his art has been recently featured in the #OldProProject and the HUMP! Film Festival. Brodin’s work draws upon his strict evangelical upbringing to untangle feelings of repression and the power of queer acceptance.
WhiskyTangoFoxy
WhiskyTangoFoxy (pronouns are She/Her/Hers) is a Rope Bondage educator and lover of fiber arts as a top, a bottom, and especially as a solo practitioner. She loves the opportunity for the intense practice, focus and infinite creativity that happens in rope. Foxy has presented rope instruction and BDSM education all over the US and online, in addition to moderating online groups dedicated to self-tying.
Peggy Foy
Peggy Foy is a jeweler, metals instructor, and curator; she is the owner of Arcana Metalwork, a jewelry studio that creates ancient-inspired, modern design jewelry. In 2020, Peggy opened a pocket gallery in her studio workshop in Pioneer Square. The mission of Arcana Metalwork Gallery is to provide a dedicated venue for contemporary jewelry exhibitions in Seattle’s historic gallery district. One of the first shows in the gallery was entitled “Innuendo: Suggestive Jewelry,” presented in tandem with SEAF 2020. With any luck, these efforts will continue to lead to future shenanigans that push the boundaries of cultural norms and make people think – and more importantly, make people feel.
Gina Hunting
Gina Hunting has been a member of the pansexual, women’s and Queer leather community since the mid 1990s. A former event lead for the CSPC, Gina helped organize events like Blood, Sweat, and Queers, which combined play events with workshops, education, and social events. She has been involved with SEAF for years, as an attendee and a volunteer, spending significant time on the Security Team. Gina has retired to Hawai’i, with her wife and dog, and continues to collect art of all kinds. She is committed to building community as a party host, a conference organizer, and a kink educator.
The SEAF 2021 Call for Art runs from May 14 to June 28. More information on fees, guidelines, and how to submit your art can be found here.
