Let’s talk Installation Art

Hello lovely creators! How’s your holiday season treating you? Whether you’re feasting with family or cozily enjoying some peace and quiet on your own, we hope it’s been lovely. We’re popping in today because we wanted to talk to all you delightful people about Installations!

So! Installation art is typically art that comes together for the event itself. Hence “installation,” – it has to be installed. In the past the festival has played host to a variety of amazing installation pieces, from a giant bed where you could leave love notes under pillows to magnificent glass corsets on live models to full wall murals that took the entire festival to paint. Installation art is a part of the festival that makes each year truly unique, an experience our guests take away as a cherished memory.

Let’s talk logistics. Installation art does not have to be finished when you are submitting the proposal in the portal – after all, this may be something you build just for the festival or create while you’re there! That said, proposals with sketches, images, or videos have a higher likelihood of being accepted. The Seattle Erotic Art Festival and the Pan Eros Foundation have $2000 available in grants for Installation Art, with a maximum of $300 per accepted proposal. Installation art does not have to be for sale, but it can be if the piece is movable or breaks down into smaller components, and we have a special commission rate for Installation pieces that are for sale.

Additionally, this year we are looking for an artist to create an art piece that will be used as a photo opportunity backdrop (selfie wall) for attendees during the festival. The piece should embody the artists take on a joyful and luscious expression of sexuality.

Submissions need to adhere to all the standard guidelines for Installation Art.  We also have some additional guidelines for this project:

• A separate grant has been set aside by the festival for this project. Please include information on your planned budget.
• The max size that the piece may be is 12ft wide and 8 ft tall.
• The piece will be available for sail during the festival at a price set by the artist.
• Since the photos taken in front of this piece will be a form of keepsake for attendees of the festival, preference will be given for submissions that have a way of displaying the SEAF logo and that of the artist prominently enough to be a noticeable part of the photos taken. These elements can be removed or painted over after the festival so not to create a distraction from the original piece.
